Mel Odom

The Artwork of Mel Odom

Mel Odom majored in illustration at Virginia commonwealth University and then attended Leeds Polytechnic Institute of Art and Design in England, He moved to New York City in 1975.

His artwork with its Art Deco style established him as a commercial artist initially with erotic illustrations for magazines such as “Blueboy, “Viva”, and Pllayboy”. During the 1980s, Odom’s work covered a wide range of commercial media: record and book covers, Illustrations for the sci-fi magazine “Omni”, and a front cover for one of the 1989 “Time Magazine”.

Alfonso Casas Moreno

Alfonso Casas Moreno was born in Zaragoza, Spain in 1981 and studied teaching and later fine arr, specializing in illustration. For the last seven years, he has lived and worked in Barcelona.

Alfonso Casas has worked as an illustrator for several companies including Vodafone, Reebok, ING and others. He is the author of several books, including “Amores Minúsculos”. He is also the illustrator of “No Without My Beard” , written by Carles Suñé and published by Lunwerg Publishers in 2015. Alfonso Casas’ illustrative work has appeared on the poster for the Teatro Lara Theater  in Madrid.

Jack Balas

Three Paintings by Jack Balas, Oil and Enamel on Canvas

Born in Chicago, Jack Balas earned a BFA and MFA in sculpture from Northern Illinois University. He first began painting in the 1980s and was swept away by the western landscape. After college Balas moved to Los Angeles and worked as a cross-country art-shipper, driving a month-on/month-off route between California and New York that took him regularly through Scottsdale and Tucson.

Eventually Jack Balas moved away from sculpture and began making paintings that recreated the narrative feel of maps, annotated with numbers and texts, and brief stories with images inspired by his experiences as an art trucker. Balas began painting in earnest while teaching figure drawing at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Balas’ goal is to create transcendent images that reveal the fictions surrounding great paintings as well as speak to the present with text and mark making. His current work focuses on the depiction of athletic young men, offered as a counterpoint to the unexamined tradition of equating great painting with the female nude. Balas’ men are presented as Everyman, – variable, philosophical, vulnerable, flexible and eager to please.

The Sportsman

The manga titled “Monster Hunter Orage” was published jointly by the Japanese publisher Kodansha and the Japanes video game company Capcom in April 2008. The author of this manga is artist Hiro Mashima know for his first serial, the 1999 to 2005 “Rave Master”, and his best selling work, the 2003 to 2017 “Fairy Tail”. Mashima’s “Monster Hunter Orage” was based on the video game franchise “Monster Hunter (モンスターハンター, Monsutā Hantā)”, a successful franchise that was released for PlayStation 2 in 2004.

There are four volumes total in “Monster Hunter Orage” with the last volume published on May 4, 2009. An English release of the series first took place on June 28, 2011. Elements from “Monster Hunter” were later included in the World Unite comic crossover from Archie Comics which featured several other Capcomand Sega franchises making guest appearances in the previously running “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Mega Man” comic lines.

Eric Itschert

Eric Itschert, “Nude Boy Swimming”, 2017, Drawing and Watercolor on Arches Paper

Eric Itschert was born in 1954 in Overijse, Belgium. While still in secondary school, Eric followed oil painting classes with the painter Georges Lambillotte. He studied at St Serge in Paris in the summer of 1973, Itschert obtained his certificate of architecture in 1978 at the Ecole Supérieure d’Architecture Saint-Luc in Brussels.  He continued his painting studies with Bernard Frinking in 1986 and 1987;  and during his time spent on Paros in the Cyclades in 1989, where he developed his technique of tempera painting.
