Francisco Soria Aedo, born in 1898, was a Spanish figurative painter who began his art in Granada under the guidance of painter and portraitist López Mezquita. Aedo won major awards, including the second medal in the National Exhibition of 1924 for his work “Types Arabs” and the first medal in the International Exposition in Barcelona in 1929 for a painting titled “Christmas Eve in the Village”. Aedo became a professor of color in the School of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid.
Aedo’s work pays special attention to the representation of the popular culture of the Andalusian, Castilian and Moroccan areas. His paintings with their rich chromatic colors and achieved light effects can be found in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts of Seville and the Museum of Fine Arts of Granada, among others.
