Photographer Unknown, Brazilian Model Ricardo Villani, Photo Shoot
Ricardo Villani appeared on the cover of the April 200s issue of G Magazine, a Brazilian gay men’s magazine featuring frontal nudity and articles for the gay community. It was a monthly magazine created by Ana Fadogas that ran from May of 1997 until June of 2013. Its circulation was approximately 180,000 issues a month.
Sebastião Salgado, “Papua New Guinea”, Silver Gelatin Print, 2008
Sebastião Salgado is a Brazilian social documentary photographer and photojournalist. He has traveled in over 120 countries for his photographic projects. Most of these have appeared in numerous press publications and books. Touring exhibitions of this work have been presented throughout the world.
Salgado is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. He was awarded the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund Grant in 1982, Foreign Honorary Membership of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1992 and the Royal Photographic Society’s Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship (HonFRPS) in 1993.
Salgado and his work are the focus of the film “The Salt of the Earth” (2014), directed by Wim Wenders and Salgado’s son, Juliano Ribeiro Salgado. The film won a special award at Cannes Film Festival.

Rodrigo Braga was born in Manaus (Amazon, Brazil) in 1976 and raised in Recife, where he pursued a degree in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Pernambuco (2002).
In 2012 Braga won PIPA Popular Vote Exhibition category, during the Finalists Exhibition at MAM-Rio, and donated the work ‘Biólito’ to the permanent collection of the Museum. In 2013, the artist won the Emerging Talent Prize of Art Museum of São Paulo – MASP.
Some of his works can be found in private and public collections in Brazil and abroad, such as Maisón Européene de La Photographie, Paris, Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro and Modern Art Museum of São Paulo.

Paintings by Bruno Novelli
Bruno Novelli was born in 1980 in Brazil. Novelli studied sculpture at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; Drawing at the Atelier Livre da Prefeitura de Porto Alegre in Brazil, and Graphic Design at ESPM in Sao Paulo. Novelli is a founder of the Universidade Autoindicada por Entidades Livres, which was created to articulate interdisciplinary artistic research. Novelli is also co-founder of Metagrafismo (Metagraphism), an experimental collective exploring the graphic potential of metalinguistics.
Novelli’s work has been exhibited in his native Brazil, as well as internationally in England, Denmark, Spain, Japan and the United States. In 2010, Novelli participated in the São Paulo edition of TRANSFER for the Pavilion of Brazilian Culture at Ibirapuera Park. Most recently he has participated in exhibitions at Fundacion OSDE (Buenos Aires), Centro Nacional de Las Artes (CENART – Mexico) and at the Museu da Imagem e do Som (MIS) in São Paulo.
Novelli’s paintings and videos feature enigmatic images, in which otherworldly entities, northern figures, dynamic geometric forms, and an encrypted alphabet strangely align. He has a deep interest in Amazonian rituals, the practice of painting, and experimentations with animated gifs. Novelli lives and works in São Paulo.
Cesaria Evora and Marisa Monte, “E Doce Morrer no Mar”
This is a song written by Dorival Caymi who lived on the Bahia coast of Brazil.
The song tells the story of a fisherman who goes out to sea at night and dies, leaving his wife alone at home. His wife suffers with grief but thinks
“Doce more no mar, nas ondas verdes do mar.” (It is a sweet, graceful way to die, die in the green waves of the sea).
