Peter Paul Rubens, “Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt”, Oil on Canvas, 1615-1616, Alte Pinakothek, Munich, Germany
The “Hippopotamus and Crocodile Hunt” is an oil painting on canvas by the Flemish painter Peter paul Rubens. It was commissioned in 1615 to decorate the Schleissheim Palace, along with three other works depicting lion, wolf and boar hunts. The cycle of paintings were looted from the palace during the Napoleonic Wars. Only this painting was returned to Munich, at which time it was added to the collection that is now the Alte Pinakothek.

This eight year old blog relocated from Tumblr to WordPress in December of 2018. Raised in New Jersey, I studied at the Rhode Island School of Design. Now retired, I was a high-end fine art framer who did gallery and museum work. My interests and studies run a wide gamut which includes art, history, film history, philosophy, and oriental / indigenous cultures. My wish is that my posts pique the interest of viewers and encourage more exploration.
