Cast Bronze Lord Vishnu, Lost Wax Method in the Hoysata Style

Vishnu’s face is perfectly shaped giving him a truly divine appearance. His face is angular and sharp with his oval eyes almost looking through you with the power of his gaze. He is dressed in royal silk garments and holds in his four hands the sankha (conch), chakra (discus), gada (mace), a fly whisp in his front right hand.

The conch represents “Om”, the first sound of creation and also the beginning of matter, since sound and matter are consider to be synonymous. The discus is thought to represent the sun. Vishnu’s weapon, the mace, represents the elemental force from which all physical and mental powers derive.

His head dress design is called a Kirita Makutam, a head dress in the shape of a large puja bell. Both in his head dress and on his belt is a carving of the god of time Mahakala. Vishnu’s large mace was cast separately and can be removed from the piece.

The sages, due to a political crisis, had made cruel Vena king, although he was not qualified. But now the people were being disturbed by the king himself. Therefore all the saintly sages decided to kill King Vena, who was so dreadful and dangerous to all human society. Without using any weapons, the sages killed King Vena simply by high-sounding words.

The great sages churned the two arms of King Vena’s dead body. As a result a male and female couple came out of his arms. Greatly pleased, they said, ”The male, whose name will be Prithu, is a plenary expansion of the power of Lord Visnu, who maintains the entire universe, and the female is a plenary expansion of the goddess of fortune, who is never separated from the Lord. In the form of Prithu, the Supreme Personality of Godhead has appeared through a part of His potency to protect the people of the world.

Archi, emerged from Vena’s body, along with Prithu and is considered as an avatar of goddess Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu. Prithu’s son Vijitswa, became the sovereign and controlled the middle of the kingdom. Prithu’s other sons, Haryarksha, Dhumrakesha, Vrika and Dravina ruled the east, south, west and north of kingdom respectively.
