Lion Aquamanile

This proud and alert lion was created using the lostwax (cire perdue) method. Wax is molded around a rough clay model into the desired form of the sculpture, coated in turn with a mixture of brick, clay, and ashes, then melted out to create space for the molten metal. The rear edges of all four legs have been notched and engraved to suggest fur, while the long mane covering the entire chest has been rendered in low relief and incised to achieve surface detail. Small dragons form the spigot and handle.

Kenny Mencher

Kenny Mencher: Four Paintings

Kenney Mencher is an American painter. He is Associate Professor of Art and Art History as well as the director and curator of the Louie-Meager Art Gallery at Ohlone College in Fremont, California, and he has previously taught at institutions including the University of Chicago and Texas A&M University. Mencher is also the author of “Liaisons: Readings in Art, Literature and Philosophy”, a thematically-framed textbook about how the study of culture relates to students’ other classes and to life in general.

Jackson Pollock

Pollock was beginning to find his own individual style when he made this work. The startlingly violent image of three interlocking figures was derived from a lost work by the Mexican painter José Clemente Orozco showing the fraternal struggle between Cain and Abel. Pollock’s exploration of the theme may reflect his interest in the archetypal myths explored in Jungian psychoanalysis. The subject may also refer to the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War, which engulfed Europe as America looked on with horror.

David Edwards

Six Landscape Paintings by David Edwards

David Edwards was born in Essex, England in 1944 and immigrated to Canada in 1957. Now residing near Kelowna, British Columbia. Early influences on his style and career included John Constable and J. M. W. Turner. This influence may still be seen in his large landscapes of rounded trees and powerful cloudscapes.

Later, the work of the late French minimalist Nicolas De Stael played the most significant role in Edwards’ development as a painter. He was profoundly moved by the manner in which De Stael was able to use subtle changes in color values and textures to shape his paintings rather than relying on detail. Edwards’ landscape paintings are abstracted to simple forms relying on texture and tonal variations to create drama.

Cooper chose the name Radical Face upon seeing it on a flyer. He later found out it was a plastic surgery flyer saying ‘Radical Face-Lift’ with the word ‘lift’ ripped off. One of his singles “Welcome Home” was played at the beginning of the first episode for the T.V. series “The Returned”.On November 16, 2010, Cooper released a six-track EP titled Touch The Sky, which serves as an appetizer for an announced trilogy of albums called Family Tree.

Leading up to the release of The Roots, The Bastards: Volume One EP was released track by track. The first album, titled The Roots, was released on October 4, 2011. In August The Roots was accidentally released to users outside of the US on iTunes. The Roots will be followed by The Branches and The Leaves. Clone, an album by Ben Cooper and Richard Colado, was announced to be released through Bear Machine Records and available by fall of 2012. After many delays, the first track of Clone, The Laboratory, was released on September 23, 2014.

The album was released in acts, Cooper adding one act per week to release the album. Each track has a full explanation of the act available at projectclone.com. ‘Laser-engraved crystal thumb drives’ were designed as an alternative medium for the album.
