Whitey Metheny

Whitey Metheny: The Sheath Knife

These are all handmade knives made by Whitey Metheny from start to finish. He forges the steel blade, makes the handle of the knife, and fashions the handmade sheath to tightly fit the blade. This is his hobby; he makes only 10-15 knives a year. Some he gives as gifts to friends; some he sells to those who are lucky to find him. Beautifully balanced.

Open Window

Photographer Unknown, (In an Open Window)

“The only prospect which is really desirable or delightful, is that from the window of the breakfast-room […] where we meet the first light of the dewy day, the first breath of the morning air, the first glance of gentle eyes; to which we descend in the very spring and elasticity of mental renovation and bodily energy, in the gathering up of our spirit for the new day, in the flush of our awakening from the darkness and the mystery of faint and inactive dreaming. . .”

Conor Walton

Paintings by Conor Walton

Conor Walton was born in Dublin in 1970. He studied painting at National College of Art, Dublin and graduated with a Joint Honours Degree in the History of Art and Fine Art Painting in 1993, winning the prestigious Taylor Prize that same year.

After furthering his artistic studies with an MA in Art History and Theory in the UK, Walton moved to Florence, Italy, to master the traditional skills of fine art drawing and colour at the Cecil Studios. The teaching method used at the studio derives from the Italian Renaissance where before any individual experimentation is permitted, all students must first learn the fundamental skills of draftsmanship and the sight-size method of figure drawing and painting from the model.

One of Ireland’s leading representational painters, Conor Walton strives to create paintings that go beyond mere technical competence.

Eadweard Muybridge

Eadweard Muybridge, “Tennis Player”

These images are from pioneering motion-picture maker Eadweard Muybridge’s historically significant ‘Animal Locomotion’ study done in 1877 and 1878. Multiple stop-motion images were taken with cameras and projected for viewing with a zoopraziscope, an early device used in cinematography that predated the perforated flexible film strip. Ten photographs were compiled and put into a zoetrope format to create the movement of the nude man playing tennis.

The Reveal

Artist Unknown, (The Reveal), Computer Graphics, Gay Film Gifs

Who accomplishes the challenging setting-upon through which what we call the real is revealed as standing-reserve? Obviously, man. To what extent is man capable of such a revealing? Man can indeed conceive, fashion, and carry through this or that in one way or another. But man does not have control over unconcealment itself, in which at any given time the real shows itself or withdraws.
